Choose a TV Stand That Fits Perfectly

Consider whether a more traditional wood model is desired, or something more minimalist or industrial? Metal is a great choice as well. Glass types are becoming more desirable and they are reinforced so they are less apt to break. This transparent, contemporary TV stand may be the best choice!

Explore some of these contemporary TV unit materials and see which may be right for the space at hand.

Wood: Wood is probably the most common and traditional material for not only contemporary TV stands but furniture in general. Even though glass and metal have become more popular, the colours, styles and utility make wood stands the most sought after. The top models feature glass and ornate metal additions. They give the piece an edge and make it more lavish in some cases.

Metal: A metal contemporary TV stand is sure to be sturdy, as well as a bit more lightweight than wood styles. They also offer a profile that is slim in some cases. In fact, metal TV stands can come in different figures with unique cuts and patterns in them. They can be completely made of metal or feature glass shelves.

Glass: When choosing a glass stand, one can expect a fashion forward look that creates an open space. The only thing is that one has to be sure that the electronics look clean and attractive. Many choose glass just for that reason, however. If they are proud of their system and want to show it off this is the perfect way. It will look beautiful and clean. These contemporary TV stands are connected with metal support.

Focus on Style

Once one has chosen the build material for their new TV stand, they’ll want to focus on style. Yes, they are looking for a contemporary TV stand, however there are sometimes a mix of styles so it’s important to know what else there is and how to differentiate between them. This will be the final chosen characteristic for any piece of furniture, and one should take care to choose carefully because when it comes to the television, it’s often the centre of attention.

Contemporary

Defined, contemporary designs capture the “essence of the now.” In other words, they are fresh and new designs that have never been seen before. They can be ornate, minimalist, and made of any type of material but they are considered bold and progressive by design standards.

Traditional

Traditional stands give the onlooker a feel of timelessness. They are typically wood in a very rich colour, and look a bit like cabinetry used for a dresser. They are natural and solid which is why they are so popular.

Modern

Modern furnishings are a style that is unique and reminiscent of the mid-20th century. Look for minimalist and bold lines that give not only style but extreme function.

Rustic

Usually, rustic looking TV stands will appear old-fashioned and “woodsy.” These could be featured in a log cabin type of home and seem as though they are aged. They can be wood or metal, and just give a natural feeling. Some are even made of reclaimed pieces of wood. Though new, they appear worn.

Industrial

Looking for unique? Industrial TV stands are just that. They give a factory feel using things like steel and wood. Dark shades are featured but they look awesome in spaces that feature a soft tone.

Knowing these styles anyone can go and choose the perfect TV stand for their space and impress friends and family with their choice.

Log Cabin Decorating

When choosing furniture for your space, look for pieces you would find in a mountain cabin. Things that are earthy and woodsy. Large upholstered sofas in fabrics of earth tones and roomy oversized chairs in worn-looking leather can bring a homey and cozy feel to your room. Coffee tables, end tables or kitchen tables that are made from the woods used in log cabin decor will fit right in. For bedrooms, you will create an inviting look and feel by using log beds with thick quilts and large colorful pillows. Add a log dresser and bed side tables with soft lighting and you’ll have a room that is relaxing and tranquil.

Lighting is a key element in creating ambiance in your home. With high ceilings, a large chandelier would be the perfect way to make a statement in either your living room or the entry way. To compliment your rustic look, incorporate some table lamps or floor lamps made from wood or metal. Wall sconces add perfect lighting for that comfortable cabin feel. Elk antlers and deer antlers are now very popular in decorative lighting and have a wonderful look.

There really aren’t many colors that don’t work with the log cabin look. Mix and match with hues of creamy yellows, woodsy greens and browns, burnt oranges, deep reds and rich purples. Fabrics with floral patterns, solid colors or tartans fit in perfectly. Bring these colors in with your window treatments, rugs, pillows, throw blankets and artwork. Window treatments such as curtains or sheers should be simple. Or put in some beautiful wood blinds. Rugs will add an abundance of texture and warmth to any room. Scatter around some natural fiber woven rugs or find an oriental rug in rich colors to anchor a room.

Log cabin decorating should not stop with the furniture. You should also take into account your walls. Artwork, wall hangings and mirrors all help tie a room together. And don’t forget about all the accessories that add a little character. Think fishing lures, fishing creels, old snow shoes, duck decoys – pretty much anything that reflects the character of a log cabin. Remember the antler lighting? Antlers can be incorporated in lots of different accessories or simply hang them on the wall for a truly natural decoration.

So, use your imagination and put your creative juices to work and bring Mother Nature’s beauty into your home with log cabin decor. You will have a home or room that is comfortable, inviting and beautiful.

Home Decor for a Claustrophobic

Light colored or neutral walls and floors add a feeling of space to the environment. Leave windows uncovered and decorated with blinds that can be opened during the daylight hours and closed at night for privacy and/or consider curtains that frame the windows rather than cover them. Too many pictures on the walls can close a room in. Too much furniture can shrink your space and make it feel crowded. The furniture pieces should not only be small in number they should be light or neutral in color with maybe one or two colorful accent tables. Light gray furniture comes to mind accented with splashes of blue and orange pillows.

Lets move on into the dreaded kitchen, a place that seems to be especially susceptible to that closed in feeling. If one can afford it, a skylight is extremely helpful in providing light and airiness. White cabinets and light neutral counter tops with just a few often used items strategically placed can add a lot of space to the room.

Children’s rooms can be helped by offering convenient places to store unused toys and games. A desk and a bookcase in an older child’s room will provide space for storage of those items that often contribute to clutter such as books, CDs,
etc.

If you happen to be in the market for a new home look for one with high or vaulted ceilings. It’s uncanny how high ceilings can open up a small house. Large windows will open up the house and make it seem larger. Wood floors are less confining than wall to wall carpeting. Picture the wood floors with a few area rugs strategically placed.

So one doesn’t have to spend a lot of money to provide an atmosphere of openness. This entire article seems mostly devoted to the importance of good housekeeping, doesn’t it? Sorry about that! But it is important. So let’s get rid of the clutter, clear off that dining room table and place an inexpensive accent or conversation piece in the center. Then take a seat in your favorite chair look out over the room and maybe out the window and enjoy the space you’ve just created.

Planning For Wall Coverings

The selection between wallpaper or paint shall depend on the location you are living in as well as the area of the house. Though wallpapers are durable they are not suitable for high humid level areas such as kitchen or bathrooms.

Because of high humidity, they tend to peel off and replacing a section is expensive. In many instances, you have the only option replace the entire wallpaper. Paint seems to be better option in such cases. Even if you want to have wallpaper you put on top half with wallpaper and lower half with the tiles.

The old fashion makes come back in new trend similar to old wine in new bottle. The wallpaper has made a comeback with new patterns, designs and different materials. If you are planning for the living room or your bedroom, you can create masterpiece either by choosing different pattern or with bespoke wallpaper.

Nowadays, the walls can also be painted in different textures and colour combinations, but not easy to customize unlike wallpapers. In case of paint, you have two finishes – matte and glossy whereas wallpaper comes in embossed textures, suede, foil print etc.

In general, the paint lasts for 3-5 years and loses its texture, colour because of fading, exposure to sunlight or paint chipping. Besides, if you have children and pets, your paint might need again at an earlier stage. Though modern paints come with washable features and can be scrubbed, but then to it will have its own limitations.

Wallpapers on the other hand last up to 15 years, but it needs caring. Any mishap will mean you have to completely redo the wallpapers. There is vinyl variety wallpaper in the market that can avoid mishap to a certain extent.

The initial cost of the wallpaper is more when compared to the paint. The paint is cheaper but the overall cost comes to the same, if taken into account the durability and other factors. If you are having a habit of renovating the room every few years, then the cost of paint will be cheaper. If your wall is not in good condition, then wallpaper will be cheaper when you include the cost of plastering and require several coats of paint.

The paint is an easy job requiring lesser expertise and fuss. If the surface isn’t bad, you can apply new coat on the old coat thus reducing the labour cost as well as time. If you are not having same hue, then you will have to remove older paint to incorporate new lighter paints. On the other hand, wallpapers require expertise and might become messy as it demands lot of time.

Slip Covers Protect Couches

Everyday sitting and laying on the couch tends to damage the material with time. It is normal wear and tear that occurs with any type of furniture. The material gets thinner or stretches therefore it gets damaged. So it’s not surprising that you would want to protect your beloved furniture. To do so, you could protect your couches with slip covers. Not just the usual slip covers that you see on event chairs. I’m referring to professionally upholstered slip covers that are designed and made to fit your couch perfectly. There are generic slip covers available at different stores but the problem with them is that they are made for standard shaped couches. They simply just slip over the seating.

These covers are an economical way to redecorate your living room. By selecting a colour or pattern that you love, you can reform your living room in one swift and cost effective move. You can give your living room a face lift without the hassle of getting new couches. If you want your couches to look beautiful, upholsterers could measure your couch and take note of its unique shape and curves then make a slip cover that literally fits like a glove. It slides over and grips in all the right places. So when your guests sit on the couch, the slip cover will not slide off when they get up. Rather it will remain in place as if it was part of the original design.

If it is professionally done, your guests won’t know that you simply added this kind of cover, they will think that you had the couches completely reupholstered or bought new ones. When it is done correctly, slip covers can be a very good decision. Think about the décor you have in mind for your living room then select a material and pattern that is in keeping with your décor. Slip covers are a beautiful and stylish way to protect your comfortable lounge furniture.

Install Sliding Barn Doors

When you buy the doors you should ensure that you read the instruction kit that always accompanies them.

The kit will guide you on how to properly install and take good care of your door. If you want to learn how to install your barn door, here are the steps that you should follow:

The first thing that you should do is to measure and cut two lengths of the mounting board for each of the doors. The boards that you cut should be the same length as the doors and 4 cm wider than the track.

Once you have cut the boards you should attach the mounting boards to the top and bottom of the doorway. You should ensure that the mounting boards run straight along the doorway.

You should then measure and cut two lengths of track for each of the barn doors and then use joint brackets to attach the required track sections. You should ensure that the tracks are the same length as the section along which you want the door to slide.

If installing two sliding doors, you should ensure that the tracks are twice as wide as each of the doors so that you are able to slide them together on one track. If you are installing one door, the track should be the same width as the door.

When placing the brackets you should ensure that they occur every 6 inches and they are located in the middle of the track. If attaching the track to softer or weaker material, you should measure more holes.

You should then drill holes into the tracks and mounting boards then use spacers and bolts to attach the two together.

By reading the instruction kit, you should be able to securely hang rollers in the right places. You should also be able to attach any washers and bolts then mount the doors.

Maintain A Garbage Disposal

Keep hard materials out of the disposal

Large, hard materials make the shredder dull and less efficient while small hard objects can get stuck and jam the rotating parts. The units come with a list that specifies the objects that you should avoid.

The list also specifies the amount of hard objects that you can put in the disposal. If you suspect that a given object is harder than the disposal can handle, you should put the object in the trash can or put it in a worm composting bin.

Regardless of the garbage disposal that you have, you should keep the following items out of the units: hard bones, unpopped popcorn kernels, and hard shells from crabs, shrimp, and other shellfish.

Don’t put starch and fibrous items in the disposal

These items bring about stubborn drain blockages as the fibers get tangled and starches get thick. Some of the items that you should avoid putting in the disposal include: banana peels, celery, potato peeling, artichokes, coffee grounds, fruit pits, onion skins, egg shells, and corn cobs.

If you can’t avoid putting these items in the disposal, you should cut them into small pieces.

Run cold water while the disposal is on

After the waste matter has cleared the drain, you should keep the disposer and water running for up to 60 seconds. Cold water keeps the motor, shredder assembly, and bearings from overheating. The water also makes it easy for the waste to go down. This is because the water pushes the waste down.

You should not use hot water because hot water can melt fat and allow it to re-solidify and block the drain.

Ways to Give Garage a Finished Look

  • Look up – the ceiling might be next. Is it insulated? If not, you can do it. The cheapest way to do this is to add fiberglass insulation. You’ll want to wear goggles and a mask so it doesn’t irritate your body. Install drywall over the insulation for a completed look. If you’re serious about keeping out the cold or the heat, consider having a professional spray insulation to seal all areas.
  • Spiff up the floors. How do you use your garage? If you’re parking your car and want to save money, clean the floor with a power washer and paint! A much better look and not too hard. If you’re using the garage as a workspace or, even, using it to entertain for children’s parties or large gatherings, consider buying some outdoor carpet that you can roll down as needed in whatever area you choose. Looking for something more permanent? Have epoxy flooring installed professionally. If you’re a talented do-it-yourselfer you may be able to handle project but follow all steps carefully.
  • No matter if you park your car in the garage, have a workshop area or even a man cave, you are probably using it for storage. Quit stacking boxes on top of boxes. You can nail shelving to the studs or add stud-mounted cabinets, drawers and counters. Or, you can go quick and easy with rolling shelves and stand-alone, wheeled cabinets that can be moved out of the way for garage maintenance.
